Microsoft unveiled two new infrastructure chips at its Ignite conference aimed at enhancing AI performance and data security in its data centers.
The chips, part of Microsoft’s effort to develop customized silicon, reduce reliance on Intel and Nvidia while optimizing performance and cost.
The Azure Integrated HSM chip focuses on security by keeping encryption and critical data within a secure module, and it will be installed in all new servers starting next year.
The Data Processing Unit (DPU) consolidates server components into a single chip for cloud storage tasks, achieving up to four times the performance at a third of the power usage compared to current hardware.
Microsoft also introduced an advanced liquid cooling system to support large-scale AI systems, further optimizing its infrastructure for AI-driven operations.
