New utility tariff hikes will worsen cost of living – GUTA

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has criticized the recent increases in water and electricity tariffs, which are set to rise by 3.02% and 1.86%, respectively, starting October 1, 2024.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) attributes the adjustment to inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and gas prices.

GUTA's Public Relations Officer, Joseph Paddy, argued that the increase is unjustifiable and will worsen the cost of living for Ghanaians, already burdened by economic challenges, and questioned the timing of the adjustment amid rising prices and instability in the system.
