The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in Ghana has allocated GH¢3.3 billion to fully implement the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ 2.0) initiative, with GH¢2.7 billion provided by the government and the remainder sourced from development partners.
PFJ 2.0 aims to achieve self-sufficiency in staple foods by 2028 through programs focusing on crop and livestock development, mechanization, irrigation, agribusiness, and sustainable land management.
The program has shifted to an input credit system to increase agricultural productivity and reduce food imports.
However, the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has criticized PFJ 2.0 for favoring political interests over farmer needs, claiming poor implementation and limited farmer registration.
PFAG also noted neglect in irrigation expansion and road improvements, essential components of the program, and called for technical experts to lead the initiative.
