A recent analysis by the Institute for Energy Security (IES) reveals that Ghana's power generation consistently falls short of peak demand, averaging a daily shortfall of 700 megawatts (MW), which can spike to 1,000 MW.

This deficit hampers domestic energy reliability and reduces the country's capacity to export electricity to neighboring nations.

IES attributes the shortfall to plant shutdowns, resource constraints, and debt issues.

To mitigate this, the report calls for strategic investments in generation capacity, demand management policies, and enhanced operational flexibility to better align supply with both domestic and regional energy commitments.
