Procurement & Supply Chain industry has been underrated for too long – Award organisers

Read full article According to Akin Naphtal, even though the procurement industry is very huge, without the needed support a country cannot benefit from it.
He said the profession has been ‘underrated and undercelebrated’ over the years.
“You cannot drag profitability without the effective role of procurement unit and if you’re doing that means that more professionals need to get involved, there need to more dedications and commitment,” he said.
Mr Naphtal lauded President Akufo-Addo for establishing a procurement ministry in the country for the first time adding that there is the need to engage professionals to ensure that needed policies are put in place.
“The commitment has shown on procurement by establishing the first procurement ministry shows that the sector needs more awareness and committed efforts and they can’t do it without the professionals. It is when they are engaging the professionals that they can come up with the policy that can drive the industry forward.”
The maiden edition of the Ghana Procurement and Supply Chain Awards came off Friday evening at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra under the theme “Promoting Procurement Excellence in Ghana”.
37 individuals and institutions were awarded for their contributions to the industry with President Akufo-Addo receiving the Outstanding Leadership Award for his “visionary leadership and flinching determination to transform procurement and supply chain thinking in Ghana”.
Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Safo also received the Sustainable Procurement Transformation award.
