Ghana Chamber of Mines CEO, Sulemanu Koney, emphasized the need for strict regulation and monitoring of the small-scale mining sector to ensure its sustainability.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, he called for adherence to legal frameworks, such as the Minerals and Mining Act, and urged the government to make small-scale mining more attractive and accessible to Ghanaians.
Koney advocated for training and certification programs, noting the Chamber's collaboration with the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT).
He also stressed the importance of co-regulation between the Minerals Commission and private sector stakeholders for effective oversight.
