Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has criticized Sunon Asogli Power Plant Limited for shutting down its 560-megawatt facility due to the Electricity Company of Ghana's (ECG) unpaid debt of $259 million.
This shutdown raises fears of "dumsor," or intermittent power outages, which could harm the economy.
Dr. Amin Adam assured the public that a resolution is in progress, with an agreement to settle the debt expected soon.
He explained that Asogli's demand for an additional $60 million before signing the settlement agreement was unreasonable and reflected bad faith in negotiations.
