Tech and political will to rescue Africa from poverty and dependence bane – Yvette Atekpe
2017 Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana Marketing Woman of the year, Mrs. Yvette Adounvo Atekpe says that Africa must come of age to embrace and fully capitalize on the use of technology in order to break the trend of over reliance on developed countries.
Read full article Mrs. Atekpe who is also the Regional Managing Director of Internet Solutions Ghana Limited noted that there was the need for an ‘evangelisation’ of the constructive use of the internet especially to the youth in order to set them on the right path of development.
“If you’re talking about us moving forward, it really is about technology. And the only way we can reach people in the farthest areas is through technology. The moment we can harness that and get the internet to people all over, it becomes easier to disseminate information…. So it’s imperative that we harness technology.” She stated.
Atekpe further commended the government for its show of political will in the championing of technology citing the introduction of the Ghana Post GPS as an example.
“I’m glad to see that there’s a lot of political will currently in terms of ICT. You have seen so many developments from an ICT perspective. We’ve looked at the Ghana Post GPS and how it is helping us… Look at the platform we’re using in terms of the Ghana Card… Once we have tools like this it is easy for us now to really know immediately what the population size is, be able to demarcate what needs to go there. I believe that we’re getting there but we’re still very far off,” she added.
