Dr. Elikplim Apetorgbor, CEO of the Independent Power Producers (IPP), has warned of an imminent shutdown of three critical power plants due to unpaid debts totaling $259 million owed by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The looming crisis highlights financial challenges in Ghana's energy sector, even as President Akufo-Addo recently commissioned the Bridge Power Project to address power shortfalls.

Dr. Apetorgbor called on the government to urgently settle the debts, cautioning that the plants could go offline by Monday if no intervention occurs.

He criticized assurances that the new project would eliminate energy shortages, popularly known as dumsor, stating that it doesn’t resolve underlying issues.

Despite repeated government promises, IPPs remain resolute, underscoring the critical need for action to sustain energy production.
