An ex-convict was on Friday sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a Kumasi circuit court for stealing electrical cables worth GH¢2,000.00.

Mustapha Issifu, 35, labourer, pleaded guilty to the offence.

His accomplice, Mahumud Issah, 27, a butcher, who was charged for dishonestly receiving the stolen items, however, denied the charge.

He was granted a GH¢6,000.00 bail with surety and would reappear on December 17.

Two other accomplices are on the run.

Police Inspector Kwabena Oduro told the court, presided over by Justice William Boampong, that the complainant, Philomena Suadwa, is a trader at “Dr Mensah,” whilst Mustapha is an ex-convict who had just finished serving one-year-jail term for stealing diesel and has no permanent place of abode.

Mahumud is also a butcher at Aboaso.

About three months ago, the complainant contracted Mustapha to remove a heap of sand in her house.

Mustapha took advantage of the situation and stole the cables.

Inspector Oduro said the complainant reported the matter to the police and he was arrested. He mentioned Mahumud and the others as accomplices.
