Tensions are high in Ghana's Madina constituency following the arrest of independent parliamentary candidate Awal Mohammed.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused Mohammed of dishonesty for using former President John Dramani Mahama’s image on his campaign posters, misleading voters to believe he’s running under the NDC.
This led to his arrest and court appearance, with the case adjourned to October 18, 2024, for a bail ruling.
Supporters of Mohammed allege that incumbent MP Francis Xavier Sosu, also a lawyer, used his influence to silence an opposing candidate ahead of the elections, raising concerns about fairness in the race.
