Taxi cab driver fined for recklessness

A taxi cab driver, who knocked down a pedestrian has been sentenced to a fine of GH¢500.00 by a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Justice William Boampong.

Prince Opoku who pleaded not guilty would serve six months imprisonment should he fail to pay the money.

He was charged with careless, inconsiderate and dangerous driving.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah-Appenteng told the court that the convict hit Martha Combat with his Hyundai Excel vehicle on October 15, last year, at about 2030 hours as she attempted to cross the road at the Kotoko Cinema at Aboabo, Kumasi.

Victim sustained serious injuries including a fractured leg and was kept on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for three months.**
