A tragic incident at a 'galamsey' site in Nyameadom, Ashanti Region, has resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to seven others.
The local security guard, attempting to disperse women working in the mining pit, accidentally fired a warning shot that struck the victims.
In retaliation, locals set fire to an excavator belonging to the Chinese miners operating the site.
Two injured women have been referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while five remain hospitalized at Mankranso Government Hospital.
The women had entered the pit, believing the miners were leaving, hoping to collect leftover materials to search for gold.
