Typical of the NDC 'goro boys', rather than providing superior facts and data to counter the flawless lecture by Ghana's quintessential Vice President and economic wizkid, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, they've resorted to the usual insults and name-calling.
As the old adage goes, when the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser! That's exactly what our friends in the biggest opposition party (NDC) are exhibiting. They appear pained and discombobulated.
Take the issue of the much talked about cedi depreciation, Dr. Bawumia did not just speak from the vacuum, he displayed an incontrovertible data which shows that the average exchange rate depreciation between 2017-2021 (under the Akufo-Addo-led government) stood at 6.8% as against John Mahama's 18% between 2013-2016.
It is important to bear in mind that, unlike this government, the Mahama regime never suffered a global crisis like COVID-19; so the question is, what accounted for the free fall of the cedi under their watch? Answer: Sheer incompetence and mismanagement.
Indeed, there's no denying the fact that prices of goods and services have gone up lately, which is not peculiar to Ghana. It's a global issue caused by two major things, COVID and the Russian-Ukrainian war. These are sacred facts that can't be disputed! Not even the Americas, UKs, Germanys, Spains etc are having it easy, let alone low to middle-income countries.
The good news, however, is that we have a government in Ghana which cares about the people and will do everything possible within its means to mitigate the effect of hardship on the citizenry. Let's all support the government to succeed because the NDC is not and cannot be a better alternative! Their abysmal track record in governance is known to the world.
