When I first came across the caption of the news article reporting the denial of his suspension as the rump-Convention People’s Party’s National Youth Organizer, I felt a bit of pity for Mr. Ernesto Yeboah (See “I’m Still CPP Youth Organizer – Ernesto Yeboah” Starrfmonline.com / Ghanaweb.com 7/2/16). His denial clearly reflected more on his abject naivety, to have foolishly believed that he had been trucking with progressive men and women of honesty, dignity and integrity. Which is why Mr. Yeboah would bitterly lament that the communist-oriented Central Committee that met to decide on his suspension, as well as that of Nii Armah Akomfrah, the rump-CPP’s General-Secretary, would take its decision without inviting the target of such punitive measure to appear before it.
Had he reasonably educated himself on the large corpus of literature detailing the characteristically unilateral dealings of these latter-day Nkrumacrats, Mr. Yeboah would almost certainly have thought twice about publicly contradicting the bought-and-paid-for 2016 presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet. Messrs. Akomfrah and Yeboah would have also taken the time to critically analyze the family name of “Greenstreet,” particularly the kleptocratic implications of its “verdure” or greenness, as in “Greenback,” that unmistakable reference to the American dollar. The way these two men have been treated, you would think that they were the godforsaken goons who got Mr. Greenstreet into the auto accident that cost him the use of his legs.
You see, his vulnerable-looking paraplegia and all, Mr. Greenstreet ought to be soberly and dispassionately seen for what he inescapably is – a cold-calculating cash grubbing political scam-artist who recognizes no friends and loyal associates but his own parochial interests. I have already addressed the pathological venality of Mr. Greenstreet, at least as it pertains to his egregiously cynical stance on the Ford Expedition Payola Scandal involving President John Dramani Mahama, and so would rather focus on the comical implications of Mr. Yeboah’s insistence that he is still the National Youth Organizer of the rump-Convention People’s Party.
I couldn’t help but recall this striking echoing of Mr. Paul A. Afoko, the indefinitely suspended National Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, in the wake of his suspension by the members of the NPP’s National Executive Committee (NPP-NEC) with the resonant blessing of the party’s National Executive Council (NPP-NC), the highest organ of the party after the party’s National Delegates’ Congress (NPP-NCD). Actually, it was the party’s Disciplinary Committee (NPP-DC) that handed the insolent and defiant Mr. Afoko his walking papers. Two of the latter’s closest associates, Messrs. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe, suspended by turns, would also quixotically insist that absolutely nothing had changed, and that they were still the elected prime operatives of the New Patriotic Party.
If they really feel convinced that Mr. Greenstreet flagitiously erred by publicly endorsing the purportedly inalienable right of President Mahama to ethically compromise his oath of office by accepting bribes from contractors with a business or contractual relationship with the government and the people’s money, then, clearly, these men are members of the wrong political party. To be certain, they would be far better off trucking with the studiously unscrupulous operatives of the ruling National Democratic Congress, although I am more inclined towards advising them to apply for membership in the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party, where they can be certain of getting a fair hearing and respectable treatment.
