The frustration, degeneracy, and the policy-hollowness of the current NDC government are amazing. I wonder how at all the NDC sees taking after irrelevant or cheap popularity-related policies as a useful expedient for getting their now crawling "Ghana Better Agenda" to fly.
Yesterday the NDC, a bunch of daydreamers, felt that giving their supporters the free hand to forcibly repossess public toilets would make them popular. They continued with employing a thief, Carl Wilson, to impound privately imported posh cars into the countr, alleging that they are stolen cars. These confiscated cars ended up being dubiously distributed among some NDC gurus, activists and sympathisers. In the eyes of these self-seekers, the President Mills' NDC government is God-send. Yes it is, because it is helping them line up their pockets with quick buck. Did someone by name Ato Smith not rise up in those to lead a macho-crusade to seize any posh cars plying the Ghana roads? Did he not receive a pat on the back with a reward of ambassadorial post for job well done by President Mills? The NDCs have a penchant for posh cars for which reason only they know.
Today, President Mills has caved in before the lawless pressure of the NDC tin god. This monster in an angel's skin has the so-called foot-soldiers under his foot to do his bidding just at the crack of his fingers. They can beat, sack public employees, especially NHIS staff, on a whim. As long as President Mills sees that as enough satisfaction to calm their otherwise temperable revolt against his "do littleness", he has indirectly given them his unspoken blessing to pursue their agenda with vigour.
Tomorrow, he dreams of turning Ghana into a Communist State where his effigies will be all over the country. His portraits are to be on display in classrooms throughout Ghana why because a pupil had responded wrongly to an investigative question purporting to establish who the president of Ghana is. The poor child had said the President of Ghana is Nana Akuffo-Addo instead of Mr. Fiifi Evans Atta Mills. To show to Ghanaians that he, Atta Mills, is the President, but not Nana Akuffo Addo, his portraits are to be posted on every classroom wall throughout Ghana. Whoever has come up with this idea with those supporting it is simply a BIG FOOL. It says respect is earned but not commanded. This rush to put up his portraits in public places is an attempt to forcing people to recognise him, an act reminiscent of commanding obeisance. This is utter desperation; a vanity of a selfish life; an act of simply chasing the whirlwind.
To climax his recognition, some NDC guys are suggesting that sculptures of him are to be raised in public car parks and public places where people congregate. Mr. Mills is being pushed by some bootlickers to do the unthinkable. No wonder they want him to compare to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the First President of Ghana, in case that can push up his popularity. Once his public admiration soars, Rawlings will automatically get off his back without suffering any more of Rawlings' constant but baseless castigations.
The NDC are using the gigantic STX-Korean housing project to win over the police and the security forces as zombies. Zombie is a person who is or appears to be lifeless, apathetic, or totally lacking in independent judgment. For the sake of securing their unflinching support, he keeps drumming into their heads "I am putting up decent accommodation for the police and the security personnel" I will write extensively about his intentions on this issue later. Putting up the houses for them is good but the way he is politicizing the issue is mischievous.
So far, they are all populist policies which are as hollow same as the NDC suffers from structural defects. What socio-politico-economic benefit is it to Ghana to name and rename monuments after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah if it was not just populist intended? Do displaying President Mills' portraits in our sitting rooms, kitchens, toilets etc. bring food to our tables? It is all vanity! The NDC have run out of ideas and they are now chasing the wind; and the wind they shall chase until 2012.
When President Mills gleefully presides over an administration that victimizes a section of the population, beat them and kick them out of their jobs, he calls himself "Asomdwehene". Father of all indeed!
