If Koku has lost his mind, he’ll find it after this exercise

There is a growing deficit in political integrity and an increase in impunity in the Ghanaian society over actions similar to that of Koku Anyidoho. It’s sad to see people of high standing hail such recklessness and idiocy.

For a man like Koku Anyidoho, who holds high office in the NDC; a son of a retired Army General who has lots of service experience in Rwanda, with good knowledge of the implication of political unrest and civil war, he should have known better.

It is thus regrettable that Koku will be calling for Coup d’état in Ghana. His actions are condemnable, irresponsible and distasteful.

What are we showing our younger generation, who look up to us as political icons worthy of emulation?

Koku made those unwise comments in a context that makes the NDC appear to be fighting for the people of Ghana on the matter of the Ghana – US military agreement which was recently ratified in parliament.

The sudden shift to present themselves as a listening party is shocking. This is because; we all know their stance and the role they have played in signing the first two agreements. A move which was done in same regards without recourse to parliament and even without the people of Ghana having any knowledge of it.

We can’t pretend simply to rock the boat and continue to stay in as the water seep slowly and surely through the cracks whiles we look on. We will sink Ghana in that eventual process if we continue to accommodate indiscipline and unhinged political outbursts.

Given our history with civil and military adventures, comments such as these should not be encouraged.

I commend the Ghana Police for swift and tactful action with regards to his arrest by ensuring that law and order maintains its position in our society.

No person is above the law; Koku should be disciplined well, so that he will come out refined and to serve as deterrent to other political actors.

As Mahama Ayariga, an NDC member rightly puts it – “We must learn to put country above party politics and know the limits of politics. Hence, this potentially harmful statement should be treated with contempt it deserves.

We shouldn’t take our democracy for granted and we shouldn’t think that we can say anything we want and get away with it. I can make a claim to loyalty to the NDC and I have worked as hard as any of the members, but, I still maintain that we have to put country before party.

What we are witnessing at the Police headquarters and the general calling for demonstration in solidarity to KoKu’s action is very dangerous for our country’s political development.

We don’t have to admonish our leaders to uphold reprehensible behaviors.

It is an act of generating inspiration for public disorder. It is about time we promote level-headedness over populism and we don’t make heroes out of people like Koku Ahyidoho, because they can spew out irresponsible words.

In the midst of this all, we know their Game Plan, to make the country anarchic for the NPP government with incessant demonstration which drive away potential investors. After their actions scare investors away, they will turn around to blame the government for incompetence and a struggling economy.

The Nana Addo led NPP government remains resolute and focused with delivering on their promises to Ghanaian citizens.
