As a country do we really practice democracy or Democratic dictatorship or Multi party dictatorship...? Those who are supposed to be the voice of the people, are they really the voice of the people in the law house (parliament)?
Throughout my involvement in democratic processes in this country, I have never seen or participated in community engagement with messengers of the people in the law house.
Instead, they represent their party ideologies, discuss and make input on their party position and even boycott parliamentary seating all in the name of party decision, whiles the people are expecting a lot from them.
As you all know parliament was originally founded to represent the people, but this in itself is unbalanced as democracy means the authority of the people and not authority acting on their behalf.
The mere existence of a parliament means the absence of the people. I have always believed that, true democracy exists only through the direct participation of the people, and not through the activity of their representatives.
The race to the law house will effectively start this year. Internal party struggles have already started with both the young and the old fighting for a seat all in the name of the representing the people.
Trust me, if democracy is all about long queues in the sun every four years then there is something wrong with our DEMOCRACY system in Ghana and Africa at large. African continent have imported everything including democracy.
Africans should redefine their own style of democracy for maximum participation that will bring development into our communities.
