Kennedy Agyapong Should Shut Up Or Go

Thu, 30 Jan 2014 Source: Apeatu-Ampaw, Kofi D.

The ORDINARY PEOPLE of Ghana hereby react to the unsavory pronouncements made by Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong concerning the current executive leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Hon. Agyapong, if the incumbent Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey is re-elected, he will quit the NPP and go form his own party. He has gone further to call all the current executives of the party at the national level, “THIEVES”.

We, the ORDINARY PEOPLE of Ghana find his comments rather unfortunate. In the first place, we expected that by now, Hon. Agyapong would have furnished the party with solid evidence that indeed Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey is a theif or other elected executives of the NPP are thieves who have stolen from the party. Hon. Agyapong knows how to do this, and he exhibited that to all Ghanaians when he exposed the rot that has become the Alfred Agbesi Woyome saga. So, why is he not forthcoming with the evidence but resorting to insults and name calling? Talk is cheap.

We find this rather unfortunate especially because it forms part of a worrying trend of Hon. Agyapong’s political strategy to insult, humiliate, denigrate, and do all that he can to belittle others in the political arena. What is most worrying and perhaps frightening is that it comes after his callous and irresponsible call for NPP supporters to attack Ewes and Ga people leading up to the 2012 elections. The man seems to be gaining grounds as a no nonsense talker who talks nonsensically to the point of perhaps wrecking a nation. The potential damage he has done and may yet do to this country and the NPP is immeasurable.

We hereby call for a rebranding of the NPP by future executives. It appears that the party now appeals to harsh talkers and belligerent followers; and unless there is a rebranding of the party, the NPP may lose the support of the ORDINARY GHANAIAN notwithstanding all the hardships we are enduring.

We call on the supporters of the party to remain focused and not allow their rank and file to be swayed by reckless political talkers. The party must elect competent leaders who can talk sensibly to Ghanaians about our plight. The party must elect a leadership that puts GHANA first and works to ensure that 2016 will be a year of victory for the NPP. The party must present a leadership that ORDINARY GHANAIANS will see as capable and effective to work for ALL GHANAIANS.

God bless the NPP and GHANA.
