Terrible Roads and Squatter development at Tema Industrial area

Sun, 31 Oct 2010 Source: Agyemang, Frank

The pride associated with Tema, as the centre of this country’s industries is rapidly waning more especially at the Tema Industrial area. The entire road network within this city is very terrible.

The township, which was well designed with consideration to the sensitive manufacturing industries, has lost its beauty due to the deplorable nature of the roads. The roads which were expectedly designed to expedite business dealings in the area have rather become impediments to doing business.

Roads leading to high profile companies like Tema Oil Refinery, Aluworks, Nestle Ghana Limited, Tropical Cable, Tema DVLA Office, Reroy Cables Limited and Ernest Chemists are just terrible.

The earlier something is done to regain the fame and image the Tema Industrial Area used to have the better it would be for corporate Ghana.

Aside the terrible roads, there is the rapid development of unauthorised or unplanned buildings in the vicinity. This is spreading along the Steel Road through the DVLA office, Reroy Cables Limited, Ernest Chemist and Asibod Company Limited. One does not need to be an expert to observe this development within the Industrial Area.

If this is left unchecked, it is obvious it would devalue the Industrial Area and subsequent development initiatives and lead to haphazard or uncoordinated developments which characterise slum formation. This could definitely raise security concerns and make the Industrial Area unsafe for businesses to operate.
