On August 7, 2006 a 207 Benz bus collided with a Nissan pick-up at Tweapease near Mankranso on the Kumasi/Sunyani road. Six persons died on the spot while another one died later at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH)
By now, accidents involving 207 buses are no news to Ghanaians. I don’t think anybody is surprised when they read about accidents in Ghana. What surprises me about the August 7 accident is that, “the dead were all passengers in the 207 bus. Several others sustained injuries and are on admission at KATH”.
Nissan pick-up is one of the lightest, if not the lightest, in the pick-up series. If such a light pick-up (an antelope) should collide with a big bus (an elephant), one expects the passengers in the pick-up to absolve the blunt of the impact. Yes, one expects the casualties to be the passengers in the pick-up! No, that was not the case – all the dead were passengers in the 207 bus. Does this tell us anything?
