Vote for Akufo-Addo and you get sleeping Buhari in Ghana

During the intense Nigerian presidential brawl in 2015, the then opposition candidate of the All Progressive Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, cast himself as an outsider who was only interested in bringing Nigeria back on track. Economically. An anti-corruption crusader. Name them.

Therefore, Buhari on the campaign trail made Nigerian voters to believe that at his old age, he did not intend to come to office to amass wealth at the expense of the state. He told Nigerians repeatedly that he was vying for the highest office just to do a house-cleaning exercise of corrupt practices.

This anti-corruption message resonated with Nigerian voters who swept Buhari into office when he beat the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan by more than 2.5 million votes. Indeed Nigerians thought that a new dawn has emerged in their country and positively prayed that Buhari will live by his word and steer Nigeria, the most populous Africa country, into steady waters.

Nigeria with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $594.2 Billion has a mixed economy and has the second largest stock exchange in Africa. Nigeria’s estimated economy size increased by 89 percent when it rebased its GDP from 1990 to 2010. As a result, Nigeria today is considered the largest economy in Africa with oil and gas contributing significantly towards its GDP.

Nana Akufo-Addo, the NPP’s 2016 presidential candidate, the man who sees himself as president-in-waiting, immediately sent his congratulatory message to Buhari when the latter won. Akufo-Addo, could not even wait until the President of the Republic of Ghana, President Mahama had done so. Akufo-Addo did something else. He boarded a flight to Nigeria to confer with Buhari and predicted that just as Buhari who at that old age had won the presidential election in Nigeria, he Akufo-Addo will do same in Ghana.

Akufo-Addo then decided to tout the credentials of Buhari wherever he went saying he would be the Buhari of Ghana. Indeed Akufo-Addo was then coasting on the wind that followed Buhari to make his case to voters in Ghana, that he would do same for Ghana if voted into office.

Buhari started his presidency in a whirlwind fashion by cutting down on cost and officialdom and leading a simple life-style, which caught the attention of the world to the admiration of many in Nigeria and across its borders.

In his first 100 days, Buhari earned so many accolades with his zeal to recoup stolen monies from the Nigerian coffers and the prosecution of the looters.

But nobody talks impressively about Buhari these days. Not even his chief supporter Akufo-Addo. Akufo-Addo has taken cover from Buhari. Reason being that Buhari has surrounded himself with a worse looting brigade, which is not making anything work in Nigeria.

Today Buhari and Nigeria are at a standstill. Even the wife of Buhari, Aisha Buhari recently told the world in an interview with the BBC that she would not vote for his husband if he seeks re-election in 2019. Aisha Buhari told the BBC that President Buhari does not know many of the people he had appointed into his government and that some few people have hijacked his government.

Aisha Buhari’s comment immediately captured worldwide attention because many Nigerians who supported Buhari have become disillusioned, as they’ve seen widespread corruption and nepotism in Buhari’s government.

Many in Nigeria today see Buhari as a sleeping President with rings being drawn around him daily by the “Nigerian Political Dribbling Brigade”. Buhari has become clueless because at his age, there’s virtually little he can do. Buhari will turn 74 on December 17th.

Even though Buhari has little ailments, his is not as widespread as Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who at age 72 cannot function very well after merely one hour on his feet. This is no secret. It is a fact. Therefore, at some campaign stops by Akufo-Addo across certain parts of the country, he speaks for only three minutes. Three minutes. End of campaign speech.

Akufo-Addo has sought more medical attention outside Ghana than he had done campaign stops. Therefore, imagine if Ghanaians make the mistake of sending Akufo-Addo to the highest office of the land. Imagine what the country will get – A sleeping Buhari in Ghana.

Akufo-Addo has no tank in him. He has surrounded himself with drug barons and nonentities like Gabby Otchere Darko whose sole aim is to come and loot Ghana. If you hear the likes of Sammy Awuku, the National Youth Organizer of the NPP saying that they cannot survive if they lose the elections, then you have to read their evil intentions.

Akufo-Addo has nothing good to offer Ghana. He cannot function and “political rings” would be drawn around him if God forbids he wins. Akufo-Addo is only interested of being addressed Mr President. That is all he wants. But he would certainly give Ghana nothing in return. We don’t want another “Sleeping Buhari” in Ghana. If therefore, you vote for Akufo-Addo to become President of Ghana, you will certainly get a “Sleeping Buhari”.

This is what I’m leaving with you for now!
