Folks, it is common knowledge that the NPP's Akufo-Addo graduated from the University of Ghana in 1967 with a THIRD CLASS degree in B.Sc. Economics. In circumstances that he has refused to explain, he found himself a place in the legal profession and has practiced law for 40 years before turning to national politics, where he is lost in the scheme of things.
His two unsuccessful attempts at becoming Ghana's President "at all costs" still haunt him even as he finds it difficult to gain traction for his third and final push. Na who cause am?
As if all that Akufo-Addo has been saying to disparage the NDC administration is worth anybody's bother, President Mahama has challenged him to a debate on national affairs, especially the economic situation. The President's challenge came in the wake of the irritating falsehood spread by Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr. Bawumia.
Pronto!! That challenge hasn't gone down well with Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, the one-man-show player leading the Progressive people's party on a fool's errand in our political waters. Dr. Nduom has jabbed Akufo-Addo, calling him an "EASY MATCH" not worth debating with.
As reported, "... Nduom feels Mahama is targeting the NPP flagbearer because Nana Ado comes across as "an easy match" to him..."
Folks, there we have it. In other words, Dr. Nduom sees Akufo-Addo as a "cold chop". Why so? Obviously, Akufo-Addo lacks the capacity for any intellectual debate on the challenges facing the country, especially within the context of his politics of roguery and falsehood. Has he been able to say anything substantial about Ghana's economy and the way forward?
He is known to be hiding behind Dr. Bawumia, who is spiraling himself out of control in his campaign of lies about the government. He is known for quoting all kinds of figures to back up such a campaign. And after President Mahama had debunked his claims on the country's debt stock, he was abroad again to demand that President Mahama should seek better counsel on the matter.
Who should know more than the other in this case of the country's indebtedness, especially when it comes to how much the Mahama-led administration has borrowed so far to add to previous governments' liabilities? Is it President Mahama who is in charge of the government or an outsider like Bawumia who is no party to goings-on regarding what the government has so far borrowed?
Is Bawumia saying that he has more credible figures than the government does? Does he not even know that there are records available to President Mahama and not him?
Folks, putting everything together, we can tell why Dr. Nduom has punched Akufo-Addo so hard. Whether he is worth debating or not is moot. His party has no traction, which should worry him. If he can do political mobilization for it to catch the eyes of the voters, he may stand a good chance of being voted for. But as of now, he isn't going anywhere. So, why waste time debating him? Just for the records?
Whatever the situation may be, I wish Akufo-Addo will accept President Mahama's challenge for a debate. Then, we shall all see what we are yearning for.
