Board Member of the Aliu Mahama Foundation, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama has indicated the desire of the foundation to make a positive impact in the country through various social interventions.
Alhaji Farouk who is the son of Ghana’s former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama made the announcement during the launch of a medical outreach programme aimed at providing free medical care to inmates of major prisons across the country at Nsawam on Wednesday.
According to him, the cardinal objective of the Aliu Mahama Foundation is to honour the memory of the late Vice President who epitomized and advocated for a disciplined society in the country.
“This project is in partial fulfilment of the vision of the late Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and we intend to follow this vision to the latter. We intend to ensure that this particular project has a far-reaching implication and impact on the lives of inmates of the prisons across the country” he opined.
The Medical outreach programme dubbed “ My Health behind bars” is being undertaken in collaboration with Divine Group International and will provide free medical diagnosis, treatment and consultancy to inmates and is expected to impact thousands of inmates in 43 prisons across the country.
The Aliu Mahama Foundation believe that the health of prison inmates should remain paramount even while they are in incarceration.
Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama thanked all organizations who in diverse ways contributed to make the programme a success.
The second lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia in an address read on her behalf expressed her office’s desire to help promote social intervention programmes aimed at ameliorating the plight of the less privileged in society particularly with regards to health care.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Nsawam, officials of the Ministry of Health, the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service and officials from the World Health Organization among other dignitaries graced the programme.
