The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has started implementing the National Health Insurance Authority's (NHIA) policy to cover dialysis costs for kidney patients under 18 and over 60 years old.
Eight patients have already benefited, and those who previously paid will receive refunds. The hospital expects the policy to increase access to treatment for the remaining 80% of patients who couldn't afford it.
The NHIA CEO, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, confirmed the government's commitment to reimbursing hospitals for dialysis costs and hinted at a comprehensive plan for chronic diseases.
