The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) CEO, Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, has announced plans to expand coverage for renal diseases to include other chronic diseases.
The NHIA is conducting actuarial studies to inform this decision. A six-month free dialysis support program for renal patients has already been launched.
The program will benefit vulnerable groups, including patients under 18 and over 60, and those aged 18-59.
The NHIA also plans to roll out preventive medical care to reduce the overall cost burden of healthcare, shifting from a curative to a preventive approach.
