The Ministry of Finance owes eight months of revenue arrears, amounting to approximately GH₵2.4 billion, to Ghana's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
These arrears cover the period from July 2023 to February 2024. The issue was discussed in a meeting on June 4, 2024, involving Parliament's Health Committee, the Finance and Health Ministries, NHIS, and the Controller and Accountant General's Department.
The financial constraints have hindered the NHIS's ability to pay service providers.
The Health Committee urged the government to work with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to clear the arrears. A roadmap for resolution was discussed, offering some reassurance.
