Seven insurance companies in the country yesterday embarked on a blood donation exercise to help stock the National Blood Bank with blood.

The companies are SIC Life, Enterprise Life, Enterprise Insurance, Quality Life Assurance, Activa, Glico General and Glico Life Insurance.

The exercise formed part of a programme by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) to help stock the National Blood Bank with blood.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghanaian Times, after the exercise, held at the SICLife Mall in Accra, the Head of Corporate Services of SIC Life, Albert Bahun-Wilson, said the National Blood Service approached the NIC for the insurance industry to support it address the growing depletion of blood at the National Blood Bank.

He said donating blood to save lives was in line with the work of SIC Life, which provided insurance to assist people in times of disaster.

“As a leading insurance company in the country, SICLife decided to organise a blood donation exercise to enable our staff to donate blood to stock the National Blood Bank,” Mr Bahun-Wilson said.

The Head of Corporate Services of SIC Life disclosed that all the offices of SIC Life across the country were taking part in the exercise.

Mr Bahun-Wilson said staff of SIC Life throughout the country actively participated in the exercise.

He said because of COVID-19 many people needed blood and that had occasioned the need for people to donate blood to help save lives.

Mr Bahun-Wilson disclosed that SIC Life was in discussion with the National Blood Service, to institute the programme as an annual event.
