Accra, April 26, GNA - The Ghana Karate-Do Association (GKA) is working out modalities of forming its branches at the district and regional levels to tap martial art talents in the country. for exposure and development.
Sensei Melvin Brown, the Acting-Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee of GKA disclosed this to the GNA Sports when the association held its second black belt holders college at the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend.
He said Ghana is endowed with too many martial art talents which needs to be tapped and giving the needed exposure and development and to achieve this the association is working in concert with the National Sports Development Officer to achieve this goal.
Sensei Melvin stated that the officials of the Karate association are to embark on regional and district tours to interact with member clubs and called on its members who have not yet registered to do so to enable them become abreast with the new changes of the sport.
Sensei Tony Aidoo, a top Ghanaian martial artist domiciled in England who is currently on holidays advised members of the association to take their training seriously so that they can be self dependent even without any second profession.
He said he would try to help the association in his own way when he goes back to England by involving other members of the association based in the UK to also contribute their quota for the benefit of the state. Sensei Kwabena Poku, Prince Wilson, Frank Bekoe-Danso and Sardisu Mahgona, all judges of the Union of Federation of African Karate used the occasion to enlighten the practitioners on the new rules and regulations of the art.
