Charles Kwabla Akonnor is a former Ghanaian international footballer who played as a midfielder in Germany. He is the current manager of the Ghana national team.

Career

CK Akonnor and his friend Samuel Kuffour arrived in Germany in 1992. He played for Fortuna Köln for six years and then VfL Wolfsburg in 1998. Between 2001 and 2002, he was the captain of the team.

He was however injured at the start of the following season which required surgery in 2003. This led him to move in January 2004 to SpVgg Unterhaching, in a second-level return.

CK Akonnor moved to Denmark in 2005 to play with AC Horsens. He also played one final season in Cyprus' top flight, with Alki Larnaca FC.

In 2008, he left for Germany-based club SC Langenhagen in the Oberliga Niedersachenliga-West and played there till 18 February 2009 when he announced the end of his career.

CK Akonnor holds 41 international cups.

He signed a contract on 19 February 2009 with Sekondi Wise Fighters as their coach, where he worked with Nii Lamptey as his assistant. He was also the director of the sport of the Sekondi Wise Fighters and was succeeded by Hans-Dieter Schmidt.

CK Akonnor was also head coach of the Glo Premier League club Hearts of Oak after Nebojša Vu?i?evi?. He was also appointed on 1 October 2018 as the head coach of Asante Kotoko. He lasted in the position for nine months.

His son Charles Jesaja Herrmann is also a footballer who plays as a forward; he came through the youth system at VfL Wolfsburg.
