Afenyo-Markin seeks Supreme Court ruling on Independent MPs’ Parliamentary status

Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has filed an application with the Supreme Court to challenge a petition by Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu regarding the status of four MPs who plan to run as independents in the 2024 elections.

Iddrisu's petition seeks to declare the seats of MPs from Suhum, Amenfi Central, and Agona West vacant, along with Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah Amoako’s seat.

Afenyo-Markin argues that clarity from the Supreme Court is necessary to resolve constitutional questions and prevent disruption to parliamentary operations, especially as the ruling party's majority hangs in the balance.
