President Akufo-Addo has approved the elevation of several local authority institutions following a request from the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah.
Some Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been upgraded due to their growth in capacity and population.
The following MMDAs have been elevated to metropolitan status: Kpone Katamso, Gomoa East, and Techiman.
Additionally, 12 district assemblies have been upgraded to municipal status, including Bole, Afigya Kwabre South, and Obuasi East, among others.
