Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to allocate at least $10 million annually to the Geological Survey Authority.
This funding aims to improve mineral resource exploration and mitigate environmental damage caused by the current ‘trial and error’ exploration method.
Bawumia also plans to introduce a community mining scheme with support facilities and involve chiefs in the mineral licensing process, including providing them with equity stakes in mining concessions.
His proposal seeks to enhance the efficiency of mineral exploration while ensuring environmental protection and local participation.
