Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate, has pledged that a future NPP government will not ban small-scale mining.
Instead, he promised to empower miners to adopt responsible practices and expand their operations.
Speaking at a campaign event in the Ashanti Region, he stressed the need to differentiate between regulated mining and illegal activities harming the environment.
His remarks come as Organised Labour prepares for a nationwide strike over frustrations regarding illegal mining and its impact on communities.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the NPP's commitment to sustainable mining that protects resources while supporting legitimate miners.
