Constitutional lawyer Justice Abdulai has stated that four MPs who declared their intent to run as independent candidates in the upcoming elections have limited legal options to retain their seats.
According to Abdulai, Article 97(1)(g) of the Constitution clearly states that MPs must vacate their seats if they leave their party or seek re-election as independents.
This follows Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu's move to invoke the article, potentially unseating three Majority MPs and one NDC MP.
If successful, the NDC would gain a majority in Parliament. Abdulai dismissed concerns about weakening representation so close to the elections.
