Coronavirus: Ghana needs togetherness not your divisiveness – Kofi Buah to Bawumia

Member of Parliament(MP) for Ellembelle Constituency and former Minister of Energy, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah says what Ghana needs at this crucial hour is not divisive leadership.

This comment comes on the back of Vice President’s comparison between NDC’s handling of “Dumsor” and the NPP’s handling of “COVID-19”.

Speaking at a media interaction after a COVID-19 response team meeting on Monday, the Vice President said John Mahama’s claims of the economy being in disarray due to the COVID-19 outbreak should be disregarded because it is untrue.

“My humble advice to former President John Mahama is [that he should] take a look at the data, this is not green book data. Take a look at the data before you speak, otherwise, you will end up embarrassing yourself.

When it comes to the data, it has been very clear; in agricultural growth, we have performed better; industry growth, we have performed better; inflation, we have performed better, on interest rate, we did perform better; exchange rate depreciation, we have performed better. That is the data,” he said.

But reacting to this and the times we are in as a country, Hon. Buah said this is not the time for leadership of the country to exhibit any form of divisiveness because the country needs to come together in order to fight against the enemy which is COVID-19.

He said “I will like to tell the Vice President that he should use that platform to bring us together”.

The lawmaker who was speaking in an interview on the KSM show said lessons he has learnt from COVID-19 is that there is the need to change politics in the country. He said leadership going forward need to think of how to do away with politics of divisiveness and focus on how to bring the people together.

He noted that one-character trait he loved about President Mahama was his ability to calm the storm and robe everyone, in times of challenges; a trait he called on the current leadership of the country to emulate.
