Kwabena Agyepong, a senior advisor to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has accused the opposition NDC of using illegal mining ("galamsey") as a political tool to divert attention from their lack of a campaign message ahead of the December 2024 elections.

The government has recently announced plans to revoke L.I. 2462 and declare mining zones as "Red Zones."
