Govt won’t declare a state of emergency over galamsey because of campaign financiers – Prof Appiagyei-Tua
Professor Kwadwo Appiagyei-Atua from the University of Ghana's School of Law has raised concerns over the government's hesitation to declare a state of emergency in the fight against illegal mining, or galamsey.
He argues that this reluctance is linked to political financing, as some politicians depend on funds from individuals involved in illegal mining.
Speaking on JoyNews, he emphasized that declaring a state of emergency could allow for stricter measures to combat environmental damage.
Prof. Appiagyei-Atua warned that prioritizing political connections over national interest could have lasting negative impacts on Ghana's environment and public health.
