Trade Minister Kobina Tahir Hammond has dismissed calls for stakeholder discussions on the proposed legislative instrument to regulate cement prices.
He claimed to have consistently engaged with manufacturers on transparency and self-regulation, but they failed to comply.
The minister believed the L.I. will ensure transparency and prevent exploitation, while manufacturers argue it was presented without consultation and undermines fairness and transparency.
The proposed legislation sets a price ceiling and penalties for non-compliance, including up to three years in jail.
