Independent Parliamentary Candidate for Efutu Constituency arrested over alleged forgery of nominees’ signatures
Louisa Buabeng, an independent parliamentary candidate in the Efutu Constituency, was arrested by the Winneba Divisional Police Command after court proceedings at the Winneba High Court on November 20.
She had sought an injunction on the December 7 elections, accusing the Electoral Commission of leaking her nomination documents.
The arrest caused a disturbance at the court, prompting the presiding judge, Justice Marriam Agyeman Gyasi Jawhary, to order the police to stop and allow Buabeng’s lawyer to bring her to the station later.
Despite this, police escorted her to the command.
While no formal charges have been filed, Buabeng is being investigated over allegations of fraud regarding her nomination signatures.
She is running against incumbent NPP MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin and NDC candidate Dr. James Kofi Annan.
