Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, stated that the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative would not have been possible if former President John Dramani Mahama had remained in office.
Speaking at a rally in Jirapa during his Upper West Region campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the program's significant impact since its 2017 introduction, particularly in the north.
He criticized Mahama for opposing Free SHS and lacking social interventions. Bawumia contrasted this with his administration's achievements, including increasing SHS enrollment from 800,000 to 1.4 million and critiqued Mahama's failed Savannah Development Authority (SADA) initiative.
