John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced plans to create a new region from the Upper East Region if elected.
Speaking at the Bawku Naba’s palace, Mahama stated that a proposal has been submitted to the Speaker of Parliament by Bawku MP Mahama Ayariga.
The new region aims to address security issues in Bawku and create jobs.
Mahama highlighted that the Bawku area's land size and population justify the creation of a new region to decentralize governance and enhance security, bringing government closer to the people.
