Mahama promises paternity leave, extended maternity leave

John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to extend maternity leave by one month if elected, increasing it from three to four months.

He believes the current leave duration is inadequate for early parenting, particularly during the crucial weaning period.

During the NDC women's manifesto launch on September 30, he also proposed a week of paternity leave for fathers, contingent on providing proof of marriage, to encourage shared parental responsibility in caring for newborns.
