Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has announced a shake-up in the majority leadership in Ghana's parliament, removing Obuasi West MP Kwaku Kwarteng as Chairman of the Finance Committee.
Kwarteng will now serve as Majority Spokesperson/Chairman of the newly formed Economy Committee, which has less power than the Finance Committee. The announcement was made unexpectedly on June 28, disappointing some Majority MPs.
Afenyo-Markin explained that the move positions Kwarteng to directly challenge the opposition on economic issues.
He emphasized the importance of the new Economy Committee, describing it as a proactive step to enhance governance and parliamentary functions.
