Some MPs in Ghana's Minority Caucus have rejected a report by the joint committee on Mines and Energy and Lands and Forestry, which investigated a clash between small-scale salt miners and Electrochem Ghana Ltd.
The report recommends no changes to the current mining leases.
MPs Christian Otuteye and Nii Lante Vanderpuye argued that the report, lacking sufficient stakeholder consultations, would not promote peace in Ada.
Conversely, Mines and Energy Committee Chair Samuel Atta Akyea called for support of national interests and highlighted the economic potential of salt production, urging political leaders to avoid inciting local communities.
