Minority warns against unauthorised multi-year contracts, threatens punitive action

The Minority in Parliament has cautioned Ministries, Departments, and Agencies against signing long-term contracts without legislative approval, per the Public Financial Management Act.

Spokesperson John Jinapor highlighted the trend of bypassing proper procedures, warning of legal consequences.

He expressed concern over multi-year contracts lacking review provisions, especially given a 32% decline in Ghana's oil revenues.

Jinapor announced an investigation into a $204 million contract in the upstream petroleum sector awarded through sole-sourcing, urging compliance with competitive bidding practices and legislative oversight.
