The National Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is meeting today, July 4, to discuss flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's choice of running mate for the December 7 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia has proposed Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh for the role and will present his reasons for the selection.
According to the NPP's constitution, Article 13 requires the flagbearer to consult with the National Council on their running mate choice.
This follows Dr. Bawumia's prior discussions with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and formal communication with the NPP's leadership and Parliament’s Majority caucus. The nomination has received mixed reactions within and outside the party.
