New electricity and water tariffs take off

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has approved a 5.8% increase in electricity tariffs and a 5.1% increase in water tariffs for residential use, effective July 1, 2024.

The increment is attributed to factors such as cedi depreciation, inflation, fuel costs, and electricity generation mix.

Residential electricity consumers will see a 5.84% increase, while lifeline consumers will see a 3.45% increase.

Industrial customers will experience a 4.92% increase in electricity tariffs, while water customers will see a 5.16% increase across all customer classes.
