Ghana's Foreign Minister and Commonwealth Secretary-General candidate, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, concluded a three-day visit to Tonga, where she addressed the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Forum.

During the forum, which coincided with a 6.9 magnitude earthquake, Botchwey outlined her vision for a reformed Commonwealth focused on climate change, education, trade, and democracy.

She emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and coastal nations.

Botchwey also met with Pacific leaders, including Tonga’s Crown Prince and Prime Ministers from Samoa, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea, to discuss her commitment to advocating for vulnerable Commonwealth members.
