NDC Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has pledged not to privatize state-owned media if elected President, emphasizing a commitment to enhancing media freedom in Ghana.
At the NDC "Governance Forum" in Accra, he promised to create a safer work environment for journalists, prevent "Rambo-style" shutdowns of critical radio stations, and reopen investigations into journalist Ahmed Suale’s murder.
Mahama also vowed to operationalize the Right to Information Act fully, support the Ghana Journalists Association, and establish a Media Development Fund.
He expressed openness to media criticism, contrasting with what he described as a decline in democratic freedoms under the current administration.
